My fellow fans of The Office, do you know how difficult it is to get through season 1 in order to get to the truly great seasons of 2 through 7? Well, in order to get to the good flavors of Uncle Scott’s, one must get through a quick bitterness up front. Uncle Scott’s is a Carolina-made (North Carolina particularly) and the only one thus far on the safari that is made on my home turf. It’s a solid, above average root beer. Now, I typically look over the ingredient list on each root beer to see what’s in it & this one was no different. However, I noticed it contains wood extract. I have no idea what that is, what that even means, and what flavor wood extract would give a root beer. It gave me slight pause but I’m here to review all the root beers so the show must go on. Cinnamon is prominent and stayed on my tongue long after. Vanilla and caramel hit in the aftertaste. There’s maybe a slight hint of licorice, but it is so fleeting that I’m not sure if anyone would actually notice. It’s mostly a smooth drink with the exception of the strong bitterness up front. Again, it’s a solid, above average root beer that I would definitely seek out again, if nothing else to support a local-ish brand. (And somehow, I was able to fit in my love of The Office with my love of root beer in this review!)
