No. 78 – Northern Soda Co. Orange Cream Root Beer

I have a bone to pick with Northern Soda Company. Their regular root beer is top tier. Their flavored root beer (previously reviewed Toasted Pecan & Maple) plus this one, Orange Cream, are not great. First of all, they do not resemble root beer at all. They should remove the words “root beer” from its packaging because they in no way taste anything remotely like root beer. Orange Cream works very well as an orange soda drink and I wouldn’t be mad if they just marketed it as such. It has a very smooth profile & I actually enjoy it way more than Sprecher’s orange soda. But it doesn’t resemble root beer at all. I actually was able to drink the whole can unlike the Maple & Toasted Pecan but as I was drinking it, I never could get any resemblance of root beer. As solely as an orange soda, this would get high marks. As a root beer, it’s bottom of the barrel. Not that it tastes bad but there’s no root beer to be had. If you like orange soda, get it but to my root beer fans, just avoid it. I got 3 more flavored root beers from Northern Soda Co. to review and I’m starting to not look forward in trying them.
