No. 82 – Northern Soda Co. Butterscotch Root Beer

Back on Feb. 27th, I reviewed the original Northern Soda Co. root beer and gave it high praise because it had such a complex taste. I was aware that Northern Soda Co. had a variety of other root beers so when the opportunity presented itself for me to buy them, I snapped at the opportunity. Unfortunately, every single one of them: Maple, Toasted Pecan, Orange Cream, Vanilla Bean, & Bing Cherry (No. 76-79, 81) were all poor root beer flavors. I had saved Butterscotch for last largely because the first root beer I ever reviewed is one of the best I have ever had: Dang Butterscotch. This one is easily the best of the Northern Soda Company’s varieties but that was already a low bar. It has a light butterscotch flavor and an even lighter root beer flavor. The saving grace is that it’s not too sweet. There’s a light butterscotch aftertaste that lingers which is nice. However, it’s about average as a root beer. It’s been so long since I’ve had a really good root beer so I’m hoping to find some soon.
