I’m not the biggest fan of ginger. For me, ginger ale is not something I drink unless I’m not feeling particularly well. I’ve had Blenheim’s and well, let me quote my good buddy Chris Harris who stated that “it’s basically fire water.” The only thing I can taste is the heat of Bleinheim’s and the more mainstream ginger ales are rather bland. Putting ginger in root beer is not really a novel idea and it really wasn’t something I was particularly excited for but it truly surprised me in a good way. Anchor is a very smooth drink that’s not too sweet at all. In fact, the root beer takes a backseat in this as the ginger takes the wheel all the way. Don’t be alarmed root beer lovers, the root beer is still there. The ginger isn’t too pronounced up front but only in the aftertaste. There’s a spice that lingers too in the back of the throat that’s fully ginger as well. I can see a lot of people liking this drink and this is the first root beer where my personal review and the actual review differ. Personally, I thought it was an average drink. But professionally and officially, it has to get above average marks due to how well everything gels even though the root beer flavor is a bit over looked. And if you enjoy the taste of ginger and a little extra spice, you’ll definitely enjoy this one. If I had another bottle, I’d try it at room temperature just to see if the coldness of the bottle inflates the spiciness from the ginger.
