The bottle looks cool, yes, in paper and in theory, and I’m sure there were marketing and art directors somewhere that were high fiving each other when the bottle was designed. However, if I have to figure out how to get the “gold” off and the bottle cap twisted off, then it immediately cuts into the score of the drink, regardless if it’s the best drink I’ve ever had. Spoiler warning: it’s not. Also, I’m not sure why the bottle has to be almost twice the size of a regular root beer bottle and of course, it’s at least twice the price. And it’s not worth it, unfortunately, or maybe because of everything that’s aforementioned without even reviewing the taste. Overall, the taste is a bit thin, almost watery. There’s a slight vanilla flavor and the wintergreen is almost blink and you’ll miss it. Still, I thought it bordered on an above average/average line but with such a big bottle, it’s higher than normal price tag, & how long it took me to open it, it’s just an average drink. There’s no hidden gold here, just fool’s gold. Now, the label on the other side has where if you redeem 5 of them to the store Rocket Fizz, you can get a free bottle of Gold Mine. But, quick math (5 x roughly $7 for a bottle = at least $35 of the same brand of root beer) dictates that it’s not worth it unless you really, really love this brand.
