No. 123 – Devil’s Foot

What if you wanted a root beer in name only, a drink that says it is one thing but in execution, totally misses the mark of what it sets out to be. Well, good reader, I have the perfect drink for you, because it’s definitely not the perfect root beer. Actually, far from it. I discovered this drink on the menu at a local restaurant and I was excited to try it as I never even heard of the brand before. It’s made in Asheville, NC so it’s a (sort of) local brew.

However, when I ordered it, the waitress looked and me and said that it wasn’t good. I told her I didn’t care, I’m here to review all the root beer that I can find. And, I have to say, she was totally right. It’s not good and it doesn’t even taste remotely like root beer. First of all, the color resembles a light beer, a la Bud Light. Second, there’s no carbonation to speak of. Third, the ingredients listed on the side of the can include brown sugar, honey, and lemon juice. And honestly, you can taste them all. It’s ever so slightly sweet and ever so slightly tart. But root beer this is not and because of that, I can’t recommend it. There’s plenty of average root beers out there that actually taste like root beer that are leagues above this one.
