This was not planned at all but the previous review and this one could be sort of companion pieces. They both come in cans instead of bottles and they are both local to the southeast region of the United States with the former from North Carolina & Root 42 makes it home in Georgia. However, that’s about it to what they have in common with one another. Their tastes are polar opposites. Devil’s Foot did not taste like root beer in the slightest while Root 42 is everything a root beer should taste like.
I bought one can of Root 42 in an order that included several other root beers (a happy birthday present to myself.) But, after drinking it, I could have been happy with 5 more cans of it. It’s such a smooth, rich and creamy root beer. The vanilla hits just right and it’s not overtly sweet at all. Honestly, it reminds me a lot of A&W without copying A&W’s homework. It’s doing its own thing & for that, I commend Root 42. Also, somewhere along the way of the root beer process, it contains pecans. Pecans are my favorite type of nut but honestly, I couldn’t taste a pecan flavor at all. And I tried many different ways of drinking it to try to obtain any subtle pecan notes. Maybe, just maybe if you get this you can. And finally, it has such a smooth wintergreen aftertaste that compliments all the flavors of the drink. It’s very subtle but also very refreshing. If you couldn’t already tell, I am a fan of this root beer and it’s easily top tier. The only thing that I hate about it is that it’s going to be tough to track down should I want more.
