No. 133 – Filbert’s Pumpkin

No. 133 – Filbert’s Pumpkin

As an aside, I probably should have reviewed a pumpkin root beer in October/November & not in the middle of summer. However, root beer does not wait for no one & I was not about to wait several months to make a review.

Now what does pumpkin taste like? A mixture of spices that include cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and ginger according to a quick google search. Does actual pumpkin itself taste like any of the above spices? I don’t know and at this point, I’m afraid to find out. Does root beer & pumpkin make a good pairing? Sort of and let me explain further.

Root beer has some pretty good pairings. Butterscotch couples well with the flavor of root beer. The same can be said of vanilla and even ginger. In the right circumstances I could see a pumpkin root beer hitting just right. But Filbert’s falls short. It’s slightly sweet with a light carbonation. But any pumpkin spice flavors don’t hit until the aftertaste. I could taste cinnamon and nutmeg for sure and anyone with more refined taste buds could probably single out other spices. But beyond that, the drink didn’t much resemble root beer to me. Overall, it’s an average experience. I think a pumpkin root beer could be better executed as all the ingredients would mesh well with root beer.
