No. 134 – Gale’s

No. 134 – Gale’s

My Ohio trip netted me 5 new root beers. Gale’s is the very last one. From here on out, it’s gonna be even harder to find nationally distributed root beers. The online places as well as the stores I’ve personally used because I know they carry a deep selection, have nearly run dry on any new drinks I have yet to try. I know there are many local/regional root beers but that would require lots of trips to far flung places. There’s tons of root beers out there and I know I don’t have the time/energy/money to try them all.

Gale’s has a complex taste and it earns high marks from me even though I personally didn’t much care for it. The drink hits you with ginger, cinnamon, and vanilla…a definite punch to the taste buds. And in the right quantities I feel it could hit the bullseye. But for me, I feel this one is too top heavy with the ginger and cinnamon as it’s literally the only two things you can taste up front. The aftertaste is where the vanilla shines through but even still the ginger and cinnamon still overpowers it. I really wanted to like it, I tried to press on in drinking the bottle to see if the experience would change or if the cinnamon or ginger would lighten up. However, on both accounts my hopes were dashed. I forget at the moment but there was another root beer where my personal review differed from my professional one. Personally I think it was average largely because I felt the cinnamon and ginger were overstated in the drink. And yet, professionally it earns high marks because I can see where people would enjoy this because of the addition of cinnamon and ginger. And because of that, it will go in the above average category for root beers.
